Dear Legend High School Students and Parents,

Welcome to Legend High School.

The excitement of transitioning into a high school and the building of traditions will be a rewarding experience in many ways. We want to provide a smooth transition for all students.  Selecting your courses is the first step. In our course guide, you will find a list of core classes as well as elective courses. The first section is dedicated as a planning guide to your high school career. This will guide your path throughout your four-year high school experience and illustrate requirements into higher education and post secondary options.

We have prepared this guide to help you plan your high school academic program. Included is information for you to use while you plan for school year 2010-11 and your entire high school career. Students and parents should work together to develop a four-year plan for high school graduation. Students should work with their teachers in English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and World Languages, to assure that they will register for courses that meet their skill levels and post high school plans. Remember that every student and family has a student advisor assigned to help you with planning and registration.

Using This Guide

You should consider the following:

  • Be aware of college entrance requirements, especially the Higher Education Admission Requirements (HEAR) on page 7.
  • Learn and know the Douglas County high school graduation requirements for 2012 beyond on page 6.
  • Before selecting a course, check Your Career Connection on page 19 and the course descriptions beginning on page 27 to be sure that the course fits your academic needs, interests, and abilities. Some courses require prerequisite courses or teacher approval before registration. If you have questions, please call and speak to your counselor.
  • Make use of Naviance, a web-based service which enables you to make decisions about colleges and careers. Naviance is linked with Workspace, which we use in our office to track and analyze data about college and career plans, so it provides up-to-date information that is specific to our school. Naviance also lets us share information with you about upcoming meetings and events, local scholarship opportunities, and other Web resources for college and career information.

Naviance will allow you to:

  • Keep track of the college application process – Build a resume, complete on-line surveys, take a personality profile test, enter journal entries, and manage timelines and deadlines for making decisions about colleges and careers.
  • Research colleges – Compare GPA, SAT scores, and other statistics to actual historical data from our school for students who have applied and been admitted in the past. Entering individual student information into the game plan will also give your student college matches.
  • Sign up for college visits – Find out which colleges are visiting our school and sign up to attend those sessions.

We have provided a four-year planning worksheet for you on page 12.

At Legend High School, we are dedicated to offering you the very best high school experience.  We look forward to getting acquainted with you and your family. Remember, we are here to help you! Access our school website at www.legendtitans.org for our most recent information and announcements. Please let us know if you have any questions about registration.
